Proton Tempts Me

To Change or Not to Change

Its a hard life being a consumer especially if you are an owner of a reliable Proton Saga. To open your regular morning paper and see Proton tempting you with an exchange programme for the 'old proton' with a new one. The Proton X Change advertisement looks pretty tempting but there's always a catch. They offer a RM5000 voucher for the 'old' car to be exchanged with another Proton brand in the form of a Savvy, Gen 2, Perdana or Satria Neo. So where did the Proton Saga Aeroback, Persona and new Proton Saga go to?

The Borneo Post advert on 1 Nov 2008

Loyalty has always been my strength but Proton is trying their very best to take my car away from me by telling me that my car is 'old'

What they do not know is that this 'old' Proton Saga rocks when it cruises between Kuching and Sri Aman and back.

Compared to the Savvy, Perdana or Satria and Gen 2 the Magma Engine is still a class on its own. If they had fitted in a Persona or the new Proton Saga ~ especially the new and cheaper Proton Saga I would have thought twice about it - but then again I hate to go through those monthly loan repayment visits to the bank. I have learnt the hard way about being in debt as you are said to be borrowing from yours and your children's future. It would have been different if one is young and single like I once was but well, age does affect how we plan for this life - only God determines who gets the RM20 million Toto Jackpot.

I believe I should do some moon lighting in Sri Aman but they do not have an institute of higher learning that can allow me to do part time tutoring. Sri Aman's strength is in agriculture so I may look into getting my own piece of land here and develop it to support my income. I have been telling the people that they should develop their idle land but talk is just talk if you don't show them how

But then again - being a farmer there will be other temptations as this Kubota Tractor looks cool in the padi field. The babes in these areas won't give an eye for you or your brand new Proton. Even if you drive a Mercedes into the padi field they will think you are mad. But if you drive this Kubota Diesel Tractor - you would be the talk of the padi field block. The ladies there will certainly be talking about you. "Hey the Deputy Resident just drove by the langkau (padi hut) on his Kubota" and they will squeal togther 'AWESOME'.

keep the saga Geng. That Magma engine is very reliable. Get myvi or avanza instead of another proton.

Btw how did the alumni dinner goes?
I never thought you drive a proton saga, first model. If you love the car, just keep it. Don't bother about the new models. Business people love it when we are in debt, because it makes them richer.

I was the proud owner of 2 proton cars! Very reliable for long-distance journey, esp the manual type. but in the long run, change is good. now i only own a Honda.

I think you're too humble to drive an old proton sir.A Toyota model would suit you better if money is not the issue here. And BTW, your Shania is so beautiful. Thanks.

My suggestion is, just keep your Saga. I believe the car have so many good memories for you and your family.
