Accidental Luck

Road Accident of Another Kind

When one drives to and from Kuching to Sri Aman, the chance of witnessing an accident or road mishap is a norm. You just catch a quick glimpse of the vehicle or vehicles that are involved or you decide to stop a bit longer for a better look. In your mind you may say - 'that's another number in the statistics'. I stopped to look at one such accident recently and boy was I in for a surprise. If not for the bystanders who saw it happen I would have not believe that it happened the way it did. The driver claimed some 'supernatural' being disturbing him which led to the accident. Okay...this is not a prank posting just in case my friend Madam Hamidah decides to scroll down the page - just read this slowly.

The Proton Wira in this accident looked as if had swallowed grass and earth in front

The accident happened at a straight stretch of road - 105 km from Sri Aman (5 minutes from SMK Balai Ringin) , on a clear road. In the photo above the car (driven from Lingga, Sri Aman) was supposed to head straight to Kuching which is straight up in this photo but it landed at the opposite side of the road pointing to the other direction

So the question in my mind as I approached the accident scene - did he hit that electric pole? Just a reminder, crossing this road - one really have to look left and right as often as possible as cars cruising this strecth goes 110 km per hour to 160 km per hour

Thanks to the man in the cap who related the accident to me - one would have concluded that this unfortunate Proton Wira had hit the electric pole. As I took this picture I had not absorbed the full story

One can notice a disturbed piece of earth in front of the car - 10 metres from the electric pole

By the look of things the accident had just happened as a small crowd gathered around the accident scene. I was worried that I would see some gruesome accident scene with the victim still trapped in the car

Watching from a distant I saw the passer bys looking into the car and taking out the valuable possessions. No they were not looting but I was also hoping I do not see any mangled bodies anywhere or under the car

Inspecting the back of the car and I was thinking it would have been impossible for this car to hit the pole as there was a Water Works stone marker in the way

Taking a closer look - I realised the stone mark for Water Works was not in any way damaged

So to satisfy my curiousity, I asked the man in the cap who informed me that the car was actually coming from the opposite direction (from Sri Aman) heading towards Kuching - it somehow swerved to the right (2) and plunged into the earth side (2) and somersaulted (3) into the position it is now

The amazing part is that it landed just in between the Stone Marker and the Electric Pole

The driver - he emerged unscratched from the accident. I told him he should hold some 'thanksgiving' ceremony for being alive

Call it luck - I do not know but the young driver should thank his lucky stars. He related to us that someone had 'disturbed' him at his back seat while he was driving. The Proton Wira had just been repaired from a serious accident before and just passed through PUSPAKOM's inspection. He suffered minor injuries (swollen ear) and the seat belt saved his life as the car crashed boom bang. Phew..... it was only last week I was told about a driver seeing some kid running beside his car (on the driver's window) as he cruised at 100km per hour along the Simunjan road, causing him to lost control of the car. There are many stories that I can compile if I want to but well, I choose not to lest it will enhance my imagination. After making sure everything was okay and that his relatives and a tow truck were on the way from Kuching, I got into my Proton Saga, prayed very hard and drove on.

Desmond, I read your story word by word for few times. It makes me recall my everytime trip using Serian-Sri Aman road, luckily I never drive alone. Believe me, even in a good weather, there must be a car involved in accident along that road. The 'supernatural' thing could be staying along that road, or it can be the late owner of the car. Yerrrrrr.....

And, there is always ONE man with a philip screw driver who is so fast that we can't always get the car plate number (at least before bloggers can shoot a few shot).

In the middle of no where too.. this ONE man always act faster than the ambulance driver, the police, and the bloggers..

That stretch of road is an accident-prone area. but stuff like evil spirit is as real as it gets too. So before u drive home (or anywhere) just pray for journey mercy. :-) Be careful yeah.
